Dear Colleagues,

First, heartfelt thanks to everyone who came to our bargaining session last week! Your support for the bargaining team and contribution of information about your own experiences was very useful. We drew great strength from the multiplicity of the voices in the room.

Update from our 8.7 bargaining session

Dear UChicago Faculty Forward Members:

Your Union Bargaining Team met with Management again today, Monday, August 7, 2017. Two members took us up on the opportunity to join us for negotiations—each had planned to stay two hours and both stayed most of the day.

Eleven proposals went back and forth—five new proposals and six counter proposals. The rate of negotiations is accelerating and we look forward a flurry of activity once fall quarter starts.

Update from our 7/27/17 bargaining session.

Dear UChicago Faculty Forward Members:

Your Union bargaining team met with Management again on Thursday, July 27th to exchange non-economic proposals.

Earlier in the summer, we reached a tentative agreement that will make all appointments renewable and create paths to promotion. Part-timers who regularly teach 3 courses a year will receive an annual contract with the possibility of benefits. Full-timers will have presumption of renewal after their second appointment and longer contracts after subsequent renewals.
